Pilot Airs: 9/9/2008
When all the passengers on a plane die, FBI agent Olivia Dunham investigates the events and while on the investigation her partner, John Scott, almost dies. A desperate Olivia looks for help and finds Dr. Walter Bishop, but he cannot help her because he has been institutionalized. The only way to even question him is with the help of his son Peter.

Olivia continues her investigations leading her to Nina Sharp, a manipulative executive. Olivia, Peter and Dr. Bishop will begin to discover what really happened on Flight 627 and begin to uncover a larger truth.

Episode 2. The Same Old Story
Olivia, along with Peter and Walter Bishop, investigates the strange death of a woman who had an even stranger child. The woman was pregnant for only hours, yet the baby she birthed was fully developed - and also aged eighty years in the span of a few minutes. Olivia asks Nina Sharp of Massive Dynamic for help.

Episode 3. The Ghost Network
A man who has visions of the future is introduced. He sees a pattern-related terror attack and the team, led by Dr. Bishop, tries to prevent this event from occurring.

Episode 4. The Arrival
The team investigates a strange cylinder, found in a deadly explosion at a construction site in New York City. The cylinder was in the middle of the explosion and was completely unharmed. Olivia uncovers a correlation between different disturbing events.

Episode 5. Power Hungry
Deals with the trio’s investigation of an elevator crash that was caused by some kind of mysterious power surge. Their investigation leads to a young man, Joseph (guest star Ebon Moss-Bachrach), who appears to give off some kind of odd electrical charge. As is typical in Fringe, the pursuit uncovers a sinister plot involving “fringe science” and the nefarious motives of another scientist (guest star Max Baker). And the race is on to find Joseph and uncover the plot.

Episode 6. The Cure Airs
The team investigates a woman that re-appears after weeks of being missing, with a rare disease and she inexplicably causes pain and death to the people she meets. In the investigation dangerous level of radiation are detected.

Walter obsesses about cotton candy, Peter strikes a deal with Nina Sharp and a truth about Olivia is discovered

J.J. Abrams talk’s about the premise of fringe..
Where the impossible in science is currently happening in the world we live in.

If you’ve ever watched any of JJ Abrams previous shows you might wonder if you’re going to be completely lost watching the Pilot episode of Fringe. JJ Abrams has committed to not confusing you:

If you’ve ever been utterly baffled by a television show that J.J. Abrams had a hand in creating — too confused to follow the serpentine plot twists of Lost or Alias or, heck, even Felicity — know that Abrams, the prolific writer, producer and director, has been annoyed, too. With you.

“I just got tired of hearing people say to me, over and over, ‘Yeah, I was watching it, but I missed one, I got really confused, and I stopped watching it,’” he said in a recent phone interview.

Considering what I’ve ready about Fringe so far I’m pretty sure you’re not going to want to miss an episode or you’ll be missing something valuable. This is just more reason for Fox to stream all the Fringe episodes online similar to how ABC streams its shows.

It was also interesting to learn how JJ Abrams came up with Fringe:

His newest show was born from pragmatism. In 2007 he was preparing to direct Star Trek for Paramount, but he also owed a television series to Warner Brothers, the studio that produces Fringe, and he turned to Kurtzman and Orci for help. They traded ideas about beloved fantasy films and television series –The X-Files, Altered States, the early movies of David Cronenberg — but also looked carefully at procedural crime dramas dominating the networks. “When six of the Top 10 shows are Law & Order and C.S.I.,” Orci said, “you have to be a fool not to go study what it is that they’re doing.”

Studied composition at Eastman School Of Music, Rochester, and acting at the Yale Drama School.

In my opinion he can play creepy as in “LOST” he can play tough as in “The Wire” and he can play MEAN as on Fringe. Take my advice… Don’t make this guy mad!

Artistic Director of Stage Company of South Australia 1977 - 87. Head of Drama, Brent St. School of Arts (Sydney) 1997-00. Directed over 80 plays, including ‘Sons of Cain’ on London’s West End (1986). Freelance actor. Semi-regular in TV series ‘All Saints’. Voice and acting teacher.

Fun facts
In the ending credits of the Extended Edition of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002), his name is misspelled “John Nogle.”
His daughter is the actress Samantha Noble

In my opinion “perfect” for the part of Dr. Walter Bishop. I really hope they keep playing him as the bright mad sicientest with no understanding of present day things.
